Name: The name agate probably comes from where it was first found, the Achates River in Sicily. There, the Greeks mentioned him in writing long before Christ. Agate was also known in ancient Egypt - coveted scarabs were cut from it. In ancient Rome, wealthy citizens believed that agate slices brought them power and wealth. In the Middle Ages, it was even believed that this precious stone could make its wearer invisible.

Formation: Agate belongs to the oxide mineral class. Agate is formed primarily in hydrothermal conditions at 100 °C - 200 °C, mostly in cavities and gas bubbles in volcanic rocks or in fissures of sedimentary rocks. As the silicic acid slowly solidifies and dries, quartz layer after quartz layer is deposited (rhythmic crystallization), resulting in the most varied patterns and drawings of agate.
