Name: Suarholz/Saurwood/Oxydendrum arboreum/Sorel has many names. This plant, which belongs to the acacia family, is called rain tree in Thailand, munggur in Indonesia and suar or sorrel in our climate.

Origin: This is a fast-growing wood that is specially grown on plantations in sustainable forestry. Due to its colorful coloring, the tree, which can reach a height of up to 40 m, is often used to make furniture and decorative items. The surface of suar wood is polished and glazed with a natural oil-color mixture.

The word 'Buddha' means 'awakened one'. In Buddhism, it is understood as a being who has achieved the purity and perfection of his spirit through his own efforts. This being is said to have attained perfect wisdom and infinite compassion for all living things.

Happy Buddha, also called "happy Buddha", is of Chinese origin. According to legend, a beggar monk named Qici from the city of Fenghua in Zhejiang Province roamed the villages and towns of China. He carried a hemp sack on his back and collected alms for his poor order. With his carefree bliss, he infected people with his laughter on his way. He still stands for the virtue of self-sufficiency. "For he who is content with little has the greatest treasure."

The Happy Buddha is usually depicted as a laughing monk with a belly. Stroking the belly of such a Buddha figure is said to bring good luck.
